Midsummer's Day celebrated with torches and herbal wreaths in village of Delchevo

The village of Delchevo is restoring the tradition of celebrating Midsummer's Day with a two-day program on June 21 and 22, the Gotse Delchev municipality announced. 

The events will begin on June 21 at 5:00 p.m. with a procession from the square to the "Vulchova Tumba" area, where water will be collected ritually. The next day, Sunday, June 22, at 5:00 a.m., people with torches will go from the square in the village to the "Vulchova Tumba" area again, where the sunrise will be welcomed and herbs will be picked along the paths. The official opening of the holiday will be at 11:00 a.m. in the "Katurovata Polyana" area. Three competitions will be held there - for the most beautiful Midsummer's Day wreath, for an authentic recipe prepared with herbs, and for the most beautiful flower bouquet. A rich folklore program is also expected.

According to the Bulgarian folk calendar, Midsummer's Day (Enyovden) is traditionally marked on June 24.
