With a majority of 197 votes and eight “abstentions”, the MPs accepted the resignation of the former co-chairman of “We Continue the Change” Kiril Petkov as an MP.

He took political responsibility for the corruption scandal in the Sofia Municipality after district mayors complained about pressure and Deputy Mayor Nikola Barbutov was arrested on charges of corruption and participating in an organized crime group, BNR recalls.

Meanwhile, in an interview with bTV, the chairman of PP Asen Vassilev commented on the leaked recording revealing the corruption scheme: “What I saw is absolutely unacceptable; Mr. Barbutov is responsible for his actions. In the recording it is said that the party leadership does not know about this.” The MP also said that an audit of public procurement procedures organized by mayors of the party is being conducted, and irregularities such as unlawful removal of companies have already been revealed.
