In the first half of 2025, the Bulgarian capital city marked an 11% increase in tourists, compared to the same period in 2024, BTA reports, citing data from the municipal website Visit Sofia. For the period January-June, the city was visited by over 647,000 tourists, with 61% of visitors being foreigners and 39% – Bulgarians.
Overnight stays in the capital marked an 8% increase, reaching 1.45 million and were mainly in four-star hotels (35%) and in three- and five-star hotels – 21%. Revenue from overnight stays increased by nearly 9% compared to the first half of 2024. The number of tourists from Greece increased by 22%; Turkey - 21%, and Poland – 20%.
Among the tourists who have visited this country are guests from Bhutan, the Falkland Islands, New Caledonia, Lesotho, and others.
