Thousands of citizens took to the streets last night in Sofia to protest against corruption and demand the resignations of the government and acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov. The demonstration was organized by the ''Justice for All'' Initiative. ''Democracy is in danger. Justice is in a coma! The hidden power has become visible!'' was the slogan of the protest in support of the rule of law, informed BNR’s reporter Maria Yordanova.
The protest march began at the Sofia Court House, reached the historic building of the National Assembly, stopped in front of the headquarters of ''DPS – A New Beginning'', where people chanted ''Peevski – disgrace, resignation and jail'', and ended with a blockade of Eagle’s Bridge.
''State institutions have been captured and turned into personal bludgeons of a criminal group led by Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borissov, who are formally not part of the government but have turned the state into their concubine. Their power is upheld by an acting chief prosecutor and an acting chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court, in blatant violation of the Constitution'', said the organizers.
The protest was also joined by MPs from the “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” coalition and public figures.
''The protest is called ‘Resistance Against Dictatorship’ – this is part of our plan: resistance against a captured state, because we see that this is an informal business, an oligarchic circle that in no way appears before the Bulgarian citizens to declare that it wants to rule the country through the judiciary, the prosecution, the State Agency for National Security, the services, and all institutions. Practically, a lid has been placed over the entire state'', commented Ivaylo Mirchev, co-chairman of “Yes, Bulgaria”.
