“Bulgaria’s defence industry is renowned for its quality and enjoys an excellent international reputation. This offers great opportunities for close cooperation with Vietnam in the security sector,” President Rumen Radev said during a visit to the Bulgarian company Samel 90, accompanied by To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria, the presidential press service reported.

The company showed the guests its radio jammers, unmanned aerial systems, anti-drone equipment, and armoured vehicles. Radev and To Lam also met with the company's management.

To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, also met with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, stating that “Bulgaria is Vietnam’s first strategic partner in the Balkans.”

The Vietnamese leader stressed the importance of elevating relations between the two countries to the level of a strategic partnership — a significant historical milestone, he said, that will provide a strong impetus to Bulgaria–Vietnam cooperation. To Lam also noted that Bulgaria was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

To Lam’s visit marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and is part of his European tour.
