Sofia plus 8 other European cities demands uniform measures against air pollution from transport

Sofia, along with 8 other European capitals – Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Copenhagen, Vienna, Brussels and Helsinki are demanding the introduction of uniform measures for reducing air pollution from urban transport.

In a letter to the Council of the EU and the European Commission, the mayors of the above-mentioned cities state that transport is one of the sectors in which the amounts of greenhouse gas emissions have continued to grow. To put an end to this tendency, concrete, uniform measures must be taken that will be reflected in national legislation. The city mayors point out further that unless urgent steps are taken, there exists a risk that the commitment, assumed under the Paris Agreement, of reducing the carbon footprint from transport by 95 percent by 2050, will not be met.
