The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the status of Jerusalem as a holy city of three monotheistic religions should be decided by Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations leading to an agreement on the final status of the Palestinian territories.

Any change in the status of Jerusalem which has not been arrived at by Israeli-Palestinian negotiations could have a serious negative effect on the relaunching of the Middle East peace process. In its capacity of member of the EU, Bulgaria will remain committed to the regional and international partners, including the Middle East Quartet in support of the efforts to resume the peace negotiations for finding a solution to the conflict, based on the principle of two states coexisting in the conditions of peace and security, the statement reads.
