The European Commission has welcomed plans for the meeting scheduled to take place in May in Sofia in the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, BTA announced, referring to a commission spokesman.

He has pointed out that all countries in the region had their European perspectives. In the coming 8 or 9 months we will decide how to proceed with each of these countries as this is an achievement-based process, the spokesman added. The EC representative added that the success of the process was linked to good neighborly relations and gave as a good example the recently signed agreement between Sofia and Skopje, as well as the ongoing negotiations between Macedonia and Greece.

The spokesman said that in April the EC will assess the progress of the Balkan countries on their way to the EU.
