Pope Francis to visit Bulgaria May 5-7

Pope Francis is to pay an apostolic visit to Bulgaria from 5 to 7 May, 2019, to include Sofia and Rakovski.

His Holiness will be the second head of the Catholic Church to have visited Bulgaria, after Pope John Paul II’s paid a visit to this country in 2002. Pope Francis’ first Balkan tour will also include a one-day visit to Skopje, the capital of Macedonia.

Pope Francis was invited to pay an official visit to Bulgaria by PM Boyko Borissov during the traditional annual audience at the Vatican.
