The state authorities have decided to set up a Bulgarian Water Supply and Sewerage Holding EAD - Sofia. It will be comprised of all water supply companies in the country. The holding will be fully state-owned with a capital of more than EUR 511 million, said Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Petya Avramova. The capital will be formed by a cash contribution from the state. According to Avramova, the united holding will provide a sustainable model for financing the water transmission system. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has demanded guarantees that the drinking water from water reservoirs will not be directed with a priority  electricity production.

The establishment of the holding came after the introduction of an unprecedented water regime in the town of Pernik, near Sofia, which has a population of 122.5 thousand people.
