Online platform to bring small Bulgarian farms closer to consumers

In a state of emergency due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Association of Bulgarian Villages calls on Bulgarian consumers to support small Bulgarian producers from family farms for organic production. The association members claim that if consumers turn to the domestic clean production, it will guarantee high-quality food for the end-consumer and will help small-scale farmers survive the crisis.

"Pure agricultural production is not a luxury and is accessible to anyone who prefers it," said Tatyana Borisova from the Association of Bulgarian Villages in an interview with the BNR. "In a pandemic, you have the assurance that the food that comes to your door is collected and packaged only by the farmer and his family. This happens with masks, gloves and protective materials. Vegetables purchased from small farms have been proven to have much higher nutritional values," she explained.
In addition to vegetables, farmers offer dairy products, eggs, bread, various types of flour, wine.
"The season is just starting. Many producers already have their first vegetables. Farms producing dairy products have difficulty. Some of them are trying to deliver through online stores, but they are having difficulties... By supporting these farms, we are supporting the life of Bulgarian villages", Tayana Borisova said.

The Association of Bulgarian Village is now working on an online platform which will offer a direct link between producers and consumers, so as to avoid the cost of production through intermediaries.
