Exhibition in Balchik shows life of Tsaritsa Eleonore

University Botanical Garden - Balchik presents an exhibition dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of Eleanore,Tsaritsa of Bulgaria.

The exhibition includes archival photographs provided by the State Archives Agency and shows the life of the royal person after her wedding to Tsar Ferdinand I. Upon her arrival in Bulgaria, she started vigorously learning about Bulgarian culture and dedicated herself to charitable causes. She restored the Boyana Church, established a children's sanatorium and founded the “Samaryanka” Women's Association. She was a major benefactor to the Bulgarian Red Cross and participated as a nurse on the fronts of the wars for national unification from 1912 to 1917.

She was called the "White Angel with the Red Cross" and is the only woman who receives the military order "For Courage" ( IV degree).
