“There is no room for improvisation on the subject of North Macedonia,” Kristian Vigenin, National Assembly Vice President from the Bulgarian Socialist Party and ex-foreign minister wrote on Facebook, commenting on the position expressed by Slavi Trifonov, leader of one of the parties in the ruling coalition - There Is Such a People.

Again on Facebook, Trifonov set down conditions for the launch of North Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations – visa-free entry to the US for Bulgarian citizens and Bulgaria’s joining the Schengen zone.

“Maintaining broad political accord and synergy among the institutions is the key to upholding Bulgaria’s interest successfully,” Kristian Vigenin writes.

“North Macedonia’s membership of the EU is important for Bulgaria. We must take this question seriously, and protect our national interests. Agreements must be implemented,” commented on his part Atanas Atanasov from Democratic Bulgaria, one of coalition partners from the ruling coalition, in an interview with Nova TV.
