MPs discuss harsher penalties for cybercrime perpetrators

The National Assembly Committee on e-Government has approved harsher penalties for cybercrime perpetrators . According to the proposal of the MPs, perpetrators of sexual offences against minors shall be sentenced to up to 6 years in prison.

 Those who intentionally spread a computer virus shall be sentenced to up to 9 years in prison and face a maximum fine of EUR 10,000. If the computer network is part of a critical infrastructure, perpetrators shall face a twelve-year prison sentence. According to existing regulations, perpetrators of some cybercrimes are sentenced to 3 years in prison.
