The Sofia Regional Prosecutor’s Office has announced that it has instituted pre-trial proceedings based on a report of stalking and a threat on the life of a prosecutor from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office. According to unconfirmed information the prosecutor in question is Angel Kanev, in whose cabinet an envelope with a bullet inside has been found, along with paper clippings with the words “blood” and “informed”.

The prosecutor has worked on major cases of significant public interest, among them that of fugitive businessman Vassil Bojkov, and has had a security detail for two years. Deputy Minister of Justice Emil Dechev called for the incident not to be politicized.
