Pernik, which is a member of the Federation of European Carnival Cities, is getting ready for the Surva festival. 10,000 participants from the country and abroad have stated they are going to take part in the 29th edition of the international masquerade festival from January 27 to 29.

During the past three years, the festival was impeded by the water crisis in Pernik and the coronavirus pandemic. The public and the participants now can’t wait for Surva to begin, the organizers say. 115 groups from Bulgaria and 15 from other countries will take part in the event. Because there will be so many participants there will be street parades on all three days of the festival.

The Surva festival is considered to be the most prestigious in Bulgaria and in the Balkans.
