Traffic at Sofia Airport still below pre-pandemic levels

Sofia Airport served more than 6 million passengers in 2022, significantly more than in 2021. However, passengers were 1 million fewer than in the pre-pandemic 2019, the airport announced.

Passengers on international scheduled flights numbered 5,461,290, or 17% fewer than in 2019. Domestic routes to and from Varna and Burgas served 232,260 passengers, a decline of nearly 18% as compared to 2019. Charter flights marked a 15% increase in passenger numbers to 250,521. The top destinations in 2022 were London with more than 400 000 passengers, and Frankfurt and Vienna with more than 140 000 passengers.
