Minister Medjidiev: Bulgaria wants to receive Covid-19 vaccines when they are needed

Bulgaria and Poland will not sign amendments to the Covid-19 vaccine contract with the manufacturer that are incompatible with the national interest, Bulgaria’s Minister of Health Assen Medjidiev and the Minister of Health of Poland Adam Niedzielski said at a briefing in Sofia

The two countries will send a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and invite other member states that disagree with the vaccine manufacturer's proposals for new vaccine supplies. Minister Medjidiev noted that Bulgaria wants to receive vaccine doses when they are needed and to pay after the delivery of the specified quantities.

In 2023, Bulgaria has to scrap nearly 3 million vaccine doses. Another 650,000 doses expire in January and February 2024.
