Orthodox Christians fill the temples on Good Friday

Today is Orthodox Good Friday-the saddest of days. Orthodox Christians fill the temples across the country and remember the suffering, the crucifixion and the death on the cross of Jesus Christ.  In the evening, a special service is held with the participation of all priests in the church. The Holy Shroud, a symbol of Christ’s Tomb, is taken out of the churches. The priests carry the Shroud and circle the Crucifix three times.

In Sofia, the laity filled the St. Nedelya Cathedral Church in the morning hours on Good Friday. The vesper is presided over by Patriarch Neophyte and by His Grace Polycarp, Bishop of Belogradchik, Vicar of Sofia Metropolitan, the BNR’s reporter Tsvetelina Stoyanova informed.

In the town of Veliko Tarnovo, the laity gathered in the historic church of St. Marina, built by master architect Kolyu Ficheto. On the saddest day for all Christians, the laity prayed for health and salvation, the BNR’s correspondent in Veliko Tarnovo Zdravka Maslyankova reported.
