Bulgaria’s border police are conducting a specialized operation against drug trafficking on the territory of Blagoevgrad region, BNR’s correspondent Keti Trencheva reports.
The operation targeted cannabis fields in places high up in the mountain which are extremely difficult of access, mostly in deforested areas where cannabis is difficult to distinguish. Five such fields have been found so far. More than 600 kilograms of cannabis, which will be ready for picking in approximately one week’s time, are expected to be destroyed. Eight people have been detained and 14 pre-litigation procedures have been launched.
According to border police data, one ton of green cannabis has been destroyed in Smolyan since the beginning of the year, 1.5 tons when we add the quantities destroyed in August. The border police also conducted a successful operation in Ruse, where a large drug greenhouse was found, as well as the hashish, earmarked for export, intercepted at Kapitan Andreevo border check point.
