The state's reaction was immediate, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said from the parliamentary rostrum on the day of national mourning for the victims of the floods in Tsarevo municipality on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.

"The rain started during the night, and already in the morning - before the state of emergency was declared, 11 teams of the fire department with 35 employees were on the spot, as well as two teams of divers, who immediately began to support the withdrawal of the endangered people from the respective regions. Along with the people living in the threatened settlements, there were about 4,000 tourists," he said.

So far, damage has been inspected in 56 sites in the municipality which were affected by the floods. Ten applications have been submitted and a one-time grant of BGN 1,512 (773 euro) has already been paid for one of them.

According to Nikolay Denkov, a total of BGN 30 million will be needed to restore the flooded areas. He added that the money was available.
