The average monthly pension in Bulgaria is EUR 383

The average monthly pension paid out in January 2024 in Bulgaria is almost EUR 383. For women it is EUR 333, and for men – EUR 457, indicate National Statistical Institute data. The average contributory service and retirement age pension is higher – EUR 348 for women and EUR 464 for men. The highest pensions are in Sofia – an average of EUR 475, and the lowest in Kurdzhali – EUR 302 a month. 

The number of pensioners in the country this month is almost 2,041,000 out of a population of 6,447,710 (according to National Statistical Institute data as of 31 December, 2022). Male pensioners are significantly fewer in number – 826,000, as against 1,215,000 women.
