"We will support the political discussions to ensure the full membership of Bulgaria and Romania in Schengen by the end of this year", European Commission Exucutive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič said at the European Parliament in Strasbourg during a debate on the priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He underlined that the European Commission helps Romania and Bulgaria reinforce their external borders with the help of FRONTEX and other projects.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo did not include the topic of Bulgaria’s and Romania’s accession in Schengen in his speech on the priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, explaining this with the limited time for statements.
