A specialized operation is being conducted in the building of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) following a report of espionage activity, the prosecutor's office informed BTA. The operation concerns an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who sent information electronically to people connected to Russia.

According to a BNR source, the person in question is a woman who exported classified information to a former employee of the Russian embassy in Bulgaria, who was declared persona non grata.

Investigative activities continue with searches at various addresses. In the meantime, Nova TV reported that an action on accusations of espionage has also begun in the State Agency for National Security.

In Plovdiv, the chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zhivko Kotsev, confirmed the information about a detained spy in the system of the interior ministry. According to him, the employee has been under surveillance for several months.
