On World Theatre Day, 27 March, the Ikar Performing Arts Awards were presented at an official ceremony at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre for the 50th time.
The Hague by Ukrainian playwright Sasha Denisova, directed by Galin Stoev, won the award for best play. The Hague is a satire about a teenager from Mariupol who imagines the Russian leaders standing before the court for their crimes in Ukraine.
An Ikar in the directing category went to Boyan Kracholov for The Petrovs in and around the flu. The audience award for best play went to Vesela Baninova for the monodrama Gun in Tornado. Babinova also grabbed the statuette for actress in a leading role. Penko Gospodinov won in the actor in a leading role category, while actress Maria Kavardzhikova received an Ikar for her outstanding contribution to Bulgarian theatre. The awards were presented in 23 categories.
