Polyphony of voices - the a cappella concerts of Spectrum Vocal Band and the Canadian duo FreePlay

The five musicians of Spectrum Vocal Band are among those who continue to amaze us with the vast capabilities of human voices. Ivelina Tsoneva, Vesela Morova, Konstantin Beykov, Yanko Yankov and Daniel Nikolov have experience as participants in various choral ensembles and large choirs. Various musicians have passed through Spectrum Vocal Band over time, but Yanko and Konstantin have been part of the band since its inception 12 years ago. Konstantin was drawn by the prospect of being in a group that requires you to be not just a singer, but a complex musician. For Yanko, the interest in a smaller ensemble comes from the opportunity for each member to be a soloist, with much more depending on each individual in terms of the whole – texture, harmony and polyphony, without losing sight of the entire score, the overall development of the performed piece. They say it's difficult to find performers for an a cappella group like theirs who are not only good singers but also have comprehensive musical experience. Konstantin Beykov explains why they work entirely a cappella:

''Over the years, it has turned out that a cappella singing is not just some kind of effect. We don't do it just for the sake of it being a cappella or to make it more interesting. It has become a form of expression through which we follow our needs as musicians".

In August, the five members of Spectrum Vocal Band are holding a series of joint concerts in Bulgaria with the Canadian vocal duo FreePlay. The last concert is on August 14 in Sofia and will be held within the 15th edition of the Island of Music Concert Cycle.

In September, Spectrum Vocal Band will perform on the stage of Jazz Fest - Pleven. Later, they are expected to hold a concert in Berlin, which will be their third performance abroad this year.

Next, Immerse yourself in the magic of the voices of the five members of Spectrum Vocal Band with their song "The City Never Sleeps" from the band’s debut album "Cross Point". Atanas Kulinski wrote the music and the lyrics. The arrangement is by Konstantin Beykov.
