On December 5, 2024, the Ambassador of Bulgaria to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Tihomir Stoychev, presented his letters of credence to HМ King Charles III at an official ceremony at Buckingham Palace, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.

During the meeting with His Majesty, Ambassador Stoychev noted the cultural ties and the long history of diplomatic relations of over 145 years that connect the two countries. The Joint Declaration signed in October 2023 has elevated these relations to the level of a "strategic partnership".

The two interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the United Kingdom in the fields of combating illegal migration, security and defense, trade and economy, technology and innovation, science and education, culture and tourism. Special attention was paid to the large Bulgarian community in the United Kingdom and its role as a natural bridge between the two peoples.

After the ceremony, the traditional Vin d’Honneur reception was held at the Bulgarian Embassy building, which attracted many high-ranking guests. Among them were Marian Nestorov, the first Bulgarian in the United Kingdom to be elected Mayor of Medway, and John Brisby, Chairman of the Friends of Bulgaria organization in London.
