Rose picking season is starting this year with serious problems because of the prolonged cold spell, BGNES reports. The people in this line of business say they expect an extremely poor harvest, which gives rise to major financial concerns as the current purchase prices cannot cover the sums invested in the rose growing process.

There are around 6.2 thousand hectares of oil rose plantations in the country, but only but only 4,000 are cultivated actively, the rest have been left barren because of the low profitability of the sector.

The rose producers are demanding adequate state support and a review of the purchase prices, as otherwise a traditional livelihood for whole regions in the country will disappear, they say.
