The Bulgarians eat less bread

In 2019 the consumption of bread and pastries per capita in Bulgaria decreased with 2.9% as compared to 2018. Consumption of fruit increased by 2.4 kilograms per person, consumption of vegetables increased with 2 kilograms per capita, consumption of meat increased with 1.4 kilograms and consumption of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 3.9 liters. The average annual consumption of alcoholic beverages per capita increased from 31 to 32.6 liters and consumption of cigarettes per capita increased from 674 to 733 pieces. The purchasing power of the Bulgarian households increased as compared to 2018 for all food essentials except for the white bread and the potatoes, the national statistics shows.
