Hundreds of citizens attended the festive ritual near Mother Bulgaria Monument in the town of Veliko Tarnovo (Central North Bulgaria), where the Unification of Bulgaria was for the first time recognized as a political act by Prince Alexander I Battenberg.

Residents and guests of Bulgaria’s capital Sofia also marked the Unification Day with a ceremony in front of the Memorial Tomb of Alexander I Battenberg (The Battenberg Mausoleum). State institutions, public organizations and citizens laid wreaths and flowers to the Battenberg Mausoleum to express their gratitude for the role of Alexander I Battenberg in the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia.

The culmination of the celebration is in Plovdiv, the city where the Unification of Bulgaria was declared. The celebrations will end with fireworks. Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev will deliver a speech on the occasion of the Unification Day.
