Romanian government approves agreement with Bulgaria on new ferry border checkpoint at Giurgiu-Ruse

The Romanian government has approved the bilateral agreement with Bulgaria on opening a ferry border checkpoint Giurgiu-Ruse on the Romania-Bulgaria border, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports, citing the Romanian Agerpres.

The agreement between the two countries, which was signed in Bucharest on 29 April, 2022, envisages the creation of a new border checkpoint at Giurgiu-Ruse for the transportation of vehicles and passengers by ferry. Its creation is called for because of the increased traffic across the existing border checkpoint between Giurgiu on the Romanian side and Ruse on the Bulgarian side, as well as by the increase in the waiting time and other issues.

The border checkpoint will be opened when the two countries provide the suitable infrastructure, as well as the necessary technical resources and materials, equipment and staff.
