A Bulgarian ship has been boarded by force 380 miles East of the Yemeni island of Socotra in the Arabian Sea. The bulk carrier Ruen under a Maltese flag is owned by Navigation Maritime Bulgare, Navibulgar. The ship has an 18-member multinational crew, of whom 8 are Bulgarian. There is no contact with the sailors yet, Navibulgar says. It is not clear whether Yemeni Houthi are responsible for the attack. Last month, the Houthi abducted another, Israeli-owned ship, whose captain and first mate are Bulgarian.
“Our priority is to guarantee the safety of the 18-member multinational crew,” Navibulgar says in a statement, and adds that they are working with the competent international authorities.
