UK citizens living in Bulgaria do not have the right to vote at the local elections scheduled for October 29 this year, reads a letter of Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova to the Central Election Commission.

The United Kingdom left the European Union and according to Bulgaria's legislation, only temporarily or permanently resident nationals of EU member states registered on a Bulgarian address at least 6 months before the date of elections can vote for mayors and municipal councilors. These citizens need to submit an application to the local municipal administration no later than September 18 to be included in the electoral rolls, the BNR’s reported Tsvetelina Stoyanova informed.
